Dr. Janina Scheelhaase (Dipl.-Economist, Dr. rer. pol.) has been head of the Air Transport Economics department at DLR since 2021 and is a proven expert on the subject of market-based measures to reduce the climate contribution of air transport. She was a representative of the Federal Government in the 'Emissions Trading Task Force' of the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO (Montreal) in the years 2005 to 2007 and co-author of the 'ICAO CAEP Guidance on Emissions Trading for Aviation'. She is also a founding member of the Emissions Trading Group of the Advisory Council for Aeronautics Research in Europe (ACARE).
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry of Research, she has managed and successfully carried out numerous projects on the subject of environmental economic instruments in aviation. The AviClim project, in which measures to reduce the non-CO2 effects of air traffic were investigated, is particularly noteworthy. Dr. Scheelhaase is author of 25 scientific monographs on a wide range of economic topics. She has also published more than sixty scientific articles on these topics, mostly in peer-reviewed journals.
