Estonian Aviation Academy's UAS cage provides a safe testing environment for the development of drone technologies and for drone operating, located directly next to Tartu Airport.
- The cage measures 30 × 90 metres and has an approximate height of 15 metres.
- All flights conducted in the UAS cage take place in a fully enclosed environment and are therefore considered indoor operations. As a result, the requirements of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 do not apply. The facility enables testing and development activities to be carried out more flexibly than in an outdoor environment.
Possible uses of the UAS cage:
- research and development of autonomous systems and UAS technologies;
- drone and sensor testing, including test flights;
- testing of experimental unmanned aircraft platforms and airworthiness assessments;
- development and testing of artificial intelligence-based control and analysis solutions;
- testing of collaborative drone swarms and coordinated multi-aircraft operations;
- testing logistics and delivery concepts (e.g. small parcel delivery), including cargo handling operations such as dropping, releasing, and winching payloads;
- training and educational flights, including FPV operations.
